Back to school reminders

School is back in session!! Thankfully I have one more year left but that means every single thing counts this year! I just want to share a few tips on how to make your school year the most productive and successful year.

I’m basing my thoughts on a university student perspective. However, I’m sure some points can relate to all students.

1. Organization / Time Management –  When you have assignments due, remember what’s your priority! It’s easy to forget the amount of assignments and tasks that needs to be completed. Try writing it down in an agenda or putting it on your phone. Start brainstorming or working on your assignments the week you’re assigned to them. Chances are you’ll have much more time to complete it. Also, don’t leave the completion to the night before (or day of…guilty haha). Allot at least one to two days before it’s due so you can come back to it and review/revise if necessary!

2. Ask questions – It’s always good to ask questions! Don’t worry about it being stupid or if it doesn’t make sense. That’s why you have your professor. They are there to help you out, especially if you need any clarification. If you’re the shy type and don’t want to raise your hand during class, you can ask your questions before or after class. If possible, restrain from asking questions through emails because it’s always good to have that one on one interaction with your professor. Plus, it’s a lot easier to communicate in person whereas waiting for a response online every time. If your professor is busy at that moment, ask your friends or people around you!

3. Choose your own courses wisely – When you choose your courses make sure you’re not choosing it because it “fits” your schedule. Chances are, if you are interested in your courses you’ll be interested in learning more about it. If you’re not too sure but still want to choose it, go for it! As far as I know, colleges and universities allow a week or two to decide if they want to keep their course. So until then, attend each class and see if it’s the right fit for you.

4. Self- Care – After all the hard work and possibly (night-less sleeps) you deserve some “me time”! Hang out with friends, do some retail therapy, sleep for the whole weekend! Reward yourself because after all that hard work you need some time to yourself! Also, remember that your body knows when you are tired. Don’t push yourself to study all day and all night when you know you can’t. Make sure you rest every half hour to an hour and resume back to your assignment/studies. Another great tip is to never be hungry during class!!! It’s one thing to be embarrassed when your stomach starts making noises but when you don’t have any food in your system, you’re not going to be able to pay attention. Make sure you always have snacks in your bag wherever you go, so you can have them in between meals !

Although these tips are self-explanatory and nothing new, they are still good reminders!
